Power Supply Pavilion or « Engine Cottage »
The former gatekeeper’s pavilion, built in 1825, has housed the castle’s first electrical installation since 1906. This is one of the last models of its kind in France. The installation originally consisted of a gas-poor engine with a dynamo powering a battery of accumulators. The engine was later modified by the installation of a carburettor operating on « automobiline, » the early 20th-century automobile fuel, some cans of which are still preserved. The engine is currently powered by a mixture of gasoline and 2% oil. This installation was carried out in Mulhouse by the Prêcheur-Summer & Cie establishments, delivered by the International Electricity Company located on Rue Lafayette in Paris, and implemented by Charles Caillaud, a construction engineer in Poitiers.
