THE GARDENS

The french garden

The Château des Ormes features two distinct garden styles. On the side of the cour d’honneur lies a French formal garden, orderly and symmetrical. Facing the River Vienne stretches an English-style garden, redesigned in the early 20th century. At the far end, a hedge still marks the location of the former stone balustrade of the terrace overlooking the river, whose layout has evolved over time.

The English-style garden

The English-style garden can also be reached through the gate of the farmyard, then by the one next to the icehouse that extends from it.
Fed by the waters of the Vienne, the plane trees that frame the garden — probably planted by Marquis de Voyer in the late 18th century — still display an impressive height and grandeur not to be missed.
