Welcome
As the owner for over twenty years of this 18th-century architectural gem, I warmly welcome you to the Château des Ormes. A passionate lover of history, I am committed to making this listed Historic Monument accessible and am delighted to share it with you.
Explore the history of the castle and its famous figures
Located on the right bank of the Vienne River, the Château des Ormes stands as one of the most remarkable witnesses to the aristocratic and intellectual history of Touraine and Poitou. Owned by several distinguished families — most notably the Voyer de Paulmy d’Argenson for more than two centuries — it became, in the 18th century, a prominent gathering place of the Enlightenment, welcoming such illustrious figures as Voltaire, Marmontel, and Moncrif.
The secrets of the château des Ormes
Behind the gates of the Château des Ormes lie a trove of curiosity and ingenuity. A pioneering power station, a motorboat named Suzette II, a monumental icehouse, and an antique herbarium all bear witness to a spirit of innovation and wonder well ahead of its time. These are just a few of the château’s many secrets waiting to be unveiled.
